Let’s Talk About Music!

You see, music has been a very important part of my life  since early childhood. I started playing classical piano when I was 5 and kept it up until college. For a minute there, I entertained the idea of applying to Juilliard… But my pragmatic side got the best of me, and I eventually stopped practicing nearly altogether. However, a few years back, my lovely partner gifted me with an awesome Yamaha keyboard, and I was able to pick up piano once again! Not that I practice regularly, but at least I have started to guide myself in the right direction. Aside from classical piano, being myself a European export, I LOVE EDM (Electronic Dance Music, for those unfamiliar). No, it’s not just “techno” or “Eurotrash.” I am more into Electro, Dubstep and Drum and Bass. But enough about me.

DC lesbian music taste is beyond eclectic. Pop/dance/rap are just a tiny fraction of what you will hear in clubs. Now, for your listening pleasure, here is a little playlist I put together of lesbian-themed songs and music videos:

  1. I actually used to resent EDM and all electronic music because I’m a *rock* guitarist and I think I was just bitter that guitar never seemed to have a place in EDM styles. However, I can no longer hold that grudge… EDM, I’ve come to see, is actually very artistic and original. I do need reminders of that though, so thanks for sharing your playlist!!

And it’s really thoughtful that your partner got you a keyboard! Glad you’re getting back into music. I can’t imagine ever living without having my guitar. It’s just too important!!

    1. I totally understand where your original hesitation towards EDM originates. We, classically or contemporarily trained musicians, don’t usually turn towards tunes that are entirely synthetically made. My own initial distance from dance music stemmed from the fact that the general population thinks everything is “techno” or that I would be biased because of my European origin towards “trashy” dance stuff. However, once I myself became more educated about the many different genres of EDM, I felt like I discovered a whole new world. Dubstep, before it became as popular as it is now, was a fascinating find to me around 2008. I was mesmerized by the sound! Here’s a good website, if you’re interested, to learn about the various genres: https://www.beatport.com/genres

      Hope you enjoy it!
