Here’s a quick note from me on the celebratory nature of this day.
You may have noticed me posting several gay-themed things here and there lately. Today, on National Coming Out Day, I would like to reaffirm my Lesbian identity. You see, it took years of self-discovery. It was by no means an easy process, as I have not always accepted “lesbian” as the label for me. And I know that we now live in somewhat of a “label-free” generation, so taking a label upon myself may even seem outdated somehow. Nevertheless, in today’s crazy world, with an excruciatingly painful election year to top it all off, it is my act of freedom as an American to call myself a lesbian. My loving fiancée and supportive parents have a lot to do with my self-acceptance, and I realize that I am blessed. I wish all my lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual brothers and sisters a Happy #NationalComingOutDay
